The 2022 NFL Draft promised to be full of intrigue and surprises, due to the lack of consensus “can’t miss” prospects and a dearth of quality quarterbacks– and it didn’t disappoint.

I decided to cover the 2022 NFL Draft live on Twitter, Gettr, Parler and GAB. While there was reasonably decent engagement on all the platforms, it was GAB that seemed to be the most (ahem) fun.

So listed below are the first two rounds of the 2022 NFL Draft, with some of the comments I made live, as the picks were being announced.

Some tweets I sent out about Round 1:

  • “Travon Walker goes to the Jags, as expected. Can’t complain too much about this pick, a the team needed someone to pair with Josh Allen.”
  • “Lions select Aidan Hutchinson. Not only a great pick that addresses a huge need, but probably the most “natural” pick in this draft. Michigan boy stays in his home state.”
  • “This (1.03) is probably the first spot that can shake up all those mock draft boards, since the Texans have so many needs. They could go Edge, Corner or OLine– or trade back and get the best player available (BPA).”
  • “Texans take DB Derek Stingley Jr. A little shocked they didn’t grab Sauce Gardner if they wanted a corner.”
  • “Giants take Kayvon Thibodeaux. Since no trade materialized, this is a brilliant move. They get the most explosive pass rusher, and can still grab OL at #7.”
  • “Giants take OL Evan Neal. If you’re a Giants fan, you’re already in love with new GM Joe Schoen. Great picks to open his administration. Neal best overall OL in the Draft.”
  • Jets should be getting WR Garrett Wilson here (1.10), unless they trade back and get a WR in the middle of the round. Deebo? Unlikely that a trade happens here, but possible.
  • Lions moved up 20 sports to select WR Jameson Williams. This kid would’ve been the top receiver in this Draft had he not been injured. Fastest receiver in this class. Hopefully ACL will be ready by the middle of this season.
  • Ravens select S Kyle Hamilton. No doubt, Hamilton is an exceptional talent, perhaps the BPA at this slot. Is he their next Ed Reed?
  • TRADE: Ravens trade WR Hollywood Brown and 3rd rounder for Cardinals 1st-round pick (1.23). Wow. Why would Cardinals do this?”
  • TRADE: Titans trade WR A.J. Brown to Eagles for pick 1.18. Stunning. We know the WR market is booming, but you have to figure out a way to keep Brown.”
  • Titans select WR Treylon Burks. Stunning. This trade is literally a pure money move. Burks is a solid receiver, but for a team still in its playoff window this move is a bit suspect.
  • Steelers on the clock, and you figure this has to be where the first QB comes off the board. Kenny Pickett would be the hometown boy (and most pro ready), but Malik Willis seemed to get most of Tomlin’s attention.”
  • “Did Chiefs trade up for Edge Jermaine Johnson or DB Trent McDuffie? WR Skyy Moore a longshot here.”
  • “Best value for Packers right now is Jermaine Johnson, who has dropped way below his value. Someone will be getting a steal with this young man.”
  • “Is there a tape of Jermaine Johnson blowing a donkey or something circulating amongst NFL GMs? Just wondering.”
  • “TRADE! Jets trade 2nd, 3rd, and 5th rounder for 1.26. Is this a move for Jermaine Johnson?”
  • “Jaguars trade up to grab LB Devin Lloyd. Great pick. As we said earlier, this guy seemed destined for the Patriots. Is this a case of Bill Belichick out-smarting himself?”
  • “1.28: Packers select DT Devonte Wyatt. Very good interior DLineman. This all has a very Skyy Moore-Christian Watson type of feel for Cheeseheads pleading for a WR. But hey, you’ve got Sammy Watkins!”
  • “Patriots select G Cole Strange. If we’re being honest, we just had to look up who Cole Strange is… consensus mocks had him going somewhere in the third round.”

Some tweets I sent out about Round 2:

  • “Yesterday, a Cheesehead gave us grief for crapping on Packers… we told him to get ready for WR Skyy Moore or WR Christian Watson.”
  • “If Jets wanted to make Zach Wilson happy, Breece Hall would be the pick here…”
  • “You can see the reality of the Giants salary cap mess with their draft strategy: got two anchor players in Round 1, and now constantly trading down to acquire extra mid-round picks while driving down the cost of the 2nd round selection.”
  • “Seahawks select RB Kenneth Walker. Interesting pick… will be curious to see how the backfield in Seattle shakes out.”
  • “Colts on the clock. You know, lost in the whole Matt Ryan acquisition is the underlying fact that the Colts still need a QB of the future. Likely not getting one here, but would be happy if they did.”
  • “Giants on the clock; trade back again, or grab LB Nakobe Dean, who continues to slide?”
  • “Browns on the clock. Can they draft an accountant or lawyer or PR person? Seems to be their biggest positional needs right now…”
  • “Texans traded up to select WR John Metchie III. Hey, as long as they don’t draft a cripple, any pick can be considered a good pick.”
  • “Ravens select edge David Ojabo. This is why the Ravens are always in contention. Drafted an explosive edge defender who fell out of first round due to tearing his ACL at the Combine– but they can wait for him to get healthy.”
  • “Bears select DB Jaquan Brisker. Probably the best safety available after Kyle Hamilton, but Fields can’t be too happy.”
  • “Patriots select WR Tyquan Thornton. Guess this the annual Patriots attempt to draft an NFL-caliber WR. At least they drafted a guy with sub 4.3 speed.”
  • “Steelers select WR George Pickens. Big, physical receiver– seems like a natural fit for the Steelers. Solid pick, good value.”
  • “Colts select WR Alec Pierce. Solid receiver, has good size (6’3″, 210) and 4.4 speed. I feel the need to say this because I figure you could be like me and have drawn a blank on this name.”
  • “Boy, this is a rough QB draft. #NoShitSherlock
  • “Chiefs lost Tyreek Hill and picked up JuJu Smith-Schuster… that’s not quite an even trade-off. Do they go WR here?”
  • “2.22: Chiefs select WR Skyy Moore. Probably the best receiver available that fits the KC scheme. Good pick here.”
  • “Falcons select LB Troy Andersen. Dude’s a QB converted to LB. All the luck in the world to him, but that bio just has “disaster” written all over it…”
  • “We’ve got converted QBs taken as LBs ahead of Nakobe Dean. Crazy stuff.”
  • “Nakobe Dean must be hiding an injury– or not hiding an injury, as the case may be.”
  • “Niners select EDGE Drake Jackson. Not excited about this pick; is he a pass rusher, a run stopper, a hybrid? Too inconsistent.”
  • “Bills select RB James Cook. QB Josh Allen gets a scat-back type who will present match-up problems for opposing LBs.”
  • “Broncos use their first pick of the Draft to select LB Nik Bonitto. It’ll be interesting to see how the Broncos plan to deploy Bonitto.”
  • “Hey all, we’re continuing our Draft coverage over on our timeline. Apparently some folks complained to the mods about a sports entity posting too much about sports in this group.”
