People who say, “Happy Memorial Day,” don’t understand; it’s a day to remember the fallen. It is the soldier we honor and remember.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Many of us served without combat experience or survived it unscathed. We’re the lucky ones. This is the day we remember those who didn’t. Honor them. A silent prayer or a toast to our fallen comrades.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We wouldn’t be able to live the lives we have without the soldier.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Quotes from books, poems, etc., aren’t my strength. Even though I’m educated in academics and life, I’m a proud blue-collar simpleton.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

There’s a poem I love called “It is the Solder\u2026”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This poem has meaning for me. Elites and politicians oppose it because it strikes at the foundation of why we have our freedoms. It’s the soldier, not them!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

No one wants war, and thus, not everyone looks at a soldier willing to sacrifice himself or herself as anything but a tool of destruction.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We understand you may not like or care for us, but we have nothing without us.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

To my peers who have fallen in battle, God Bless and much love on your current journey that awaits us all.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A POEM FOR MEMORIAL DAY<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

IT IS THE SOLDIER<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

“It is the Soldier, not the minister<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Who has given us freedom of religion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It is the Soldier, not the reporter<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Who has given us freedom of the press.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It is the Soldier, not the poet<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Who has given us freedom of speech.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It is the Soldier, not the campus organizer<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Who has given us freedom to protest.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It is the Soldier, not the lawyer<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Who has given us the right to a fair trial.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It is the Soldier, not the politician<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Who has given us the right to vote.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It is the Soldier who salutes the flag,<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Who serves beneath the flag,<\/p>\n\n\n\n

And whose coffin is draped by the flag,<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Who allows the protester to burn the flag.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n
